Assistance to Firefighters grant

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.

Grant Information

  1. Grant timeframe: Officially opened January 4th with a deadline of February 12th
  2. Who is eligible?: Eligible applicants include municipal fire departments and nonprofit EMS organizations. EMS organizations cannot be affiliated with a hospital. State Fire Training Academies are also welcome to apply.
  3. Grant awards/amounts: Up to $319,500,000 is available to fund up to 2,000 awards. Awards will extend for 24 months beginning May 1, 2021. Maximum award amounts vary based upon population of the jurisdiction served by the recipient. 
  4. Cost-sharing/match requirements: The AFG matching requirement is dependent on the population applicants serve. The match requirement will be between 5%–15%.
